The Pattie A. Clay’s Sleep disorders laboratory provides
diagnostic and therapeutic services to those patients who suffer from snoring,
sleep apnea, insomnia, and a number of other sleep related diseases.
Some of the most common indicators that a person might benefit from a sleep study are those with excessive daytime sleepiness and loud snoring during sleep at night. Once a patient is accepted for the sleep disorders study, usually through a physician referral, a night in the lab for observation and examination is the next step. A team of specialists monitors, then evaluates the results of the study and makes recommendations for treatment. While treatment for some sleep-related disorders can be as simple as changing daily habits or wearing a nasal mask, some patients do require further evaluation and therapy from an ear, nose and throat physician or a dentist. Many people who probably need to undergo a sleep study have been largely undiagnosed simply because of a lack of understanding of sleep-related diseases.
The lab is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and features state-of-the-art bedside and remote monitoring controls in a comfortable, homelike sitting.
Rajan Joshi, M.D., who is board certified in sleep medicine, is the laboratory's medical director.
