CT Scanning
CT stands for computerized tomography. A CT is an x-ray procedure with computer technology. During a routine x-ray, dense tissues can block other areas. Through advanced technology, a CT scan is able to assemble different “slices” of the body (much like a loaf of bread) to create a view that clearly shows both bone and soft tissue. Before a CT scan is performed, a patient may sometimes be given a contrast dye or barium solution to provide a clearer view of the area of the body being scanned. CT scans are used to check for tumors, aneurysms, bleeding or injuries following an accident.
