Anne Richardson lost her battle with lung cancer October 14, 2009, but the inspiration for the Brighter Days Ahead Foundation began for Lee Anne Browder and her family long before that day. Throughout her battle with cancer, Ms. Richardson utilized the services at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center and Richmond Oncology Center for chemotherapy and radiation. The family is extremely grateful to have had these facilities right here in our hometown. However, they quickly realized, we need better facilities and more services for cancer patients.
Lee Anne, along with her sons, Christopher and Cameron, have started the Brighter Days Ahead Foundation in honor of Ms. Richardson. It is their hope that they can help make the journey for cancer patients a little easier.
Around 24,060 Kentuckians will be diagnosed with cancer this year- that’s about 66 new cases per day. Recent reports show the four most frequently diagnosed types of cancer in Kentucky are breast, colorectal, lung and prostate cancer. These cancers will contribute to 9,410 total cancer deaths in Kentucky this year. For many, a cancer diagnoses is much like a death sentence.
Brighter Days Ahead has come together with one mission: to offer hope and comfort to every person who enters Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center for cancer treatment. You have probably been touched by this terrible disease in some way. Lee Anne wanted to reach out to those who are on or have been on the journey she and her mother traveled. This disease affects not only the person dealing with cancer but everyone in the family.
We ask you to join us in support of a celebration of the lives of those who come for treatment at Pattie A. Clay as we walk hand-in-hand with family members and care givers to provide comfort and hope for “Brighter Days Ahead.”
The short term goals are to provide a journal and a head covering for every cancer patient, purchase a canopy for the back entrance into the hospital so cancer patients are protected from the weather and to provide a counselor for cancer patients and their families. The long term goal is to fund the Anne Richardson Cancer Wing at Pattie A Clay.
