Our first priority is to deliver high quality healthcare, but we also contribute to the community in other tangible ways.
We enjoy our role as one of the area's largest employers, employing more than 600 area residents, with annual payroll in excess of $22 million in 2008. Our hospital also contributes to the well-being of the community through our role as taxpayer. In 2008 alone, we contributed more that $2.6 million in combined local taxes, sales taxes and payroll taxes.
Helping those in need continues to be a top priority for our hospital. In addition to raising the level of healthcare by investing in new technology and constantly improving our hospital facility, last year we provided nearly $5 million in uncompensated care for those who were unable to pay.
In addition, Pattie A. Clay RMC had a total community benefit of more that $5 million for the community building activities and community health provided in 2008.
