Laboratory

The purpose of the laboratory is to provide clinical laboratory services and consultation in a regular and convenient manner to meet the needs of all individuals served by the organization, as determined by the clinical staff.


 It is our belief that the laboratory staff will meet their professional challenge by responding positively with a participatory role in the care of our patients. The clinical laboratory provides a wide spectrum of testing services on-site or at qualified reference laboratories approved by the medical staff. 
 
On-site services: 
 

  • Hematology – specializes in the analysis of the cellular components of blood and body fluids. Hematology includes routine hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis.
  • Chemistry – specializes in the analysis of the chemical components of blood and body fluids. Chemistry includes therapeutic drug monitoring, thyroid, cardiovascular, tumor marker, hepatic, and renal assays.
  • Immunology – specializes in immunologic testing of blood for Rheumatoid Factor, Mononucleosis, Anti-Streptolysin O, and RPR.
  • Immunohematology – specializes in the immunohematologic testing of blood and blood components. Services include blood typing, antibody testing, blood component preparation and complete transfusion services. This lab is not a donor facility.
  • Microbiology – specializes in the isolation and identification of the causative agents of infectious diseases. Microbiology includes bacteriology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Pathology and Cytology – A board-certified pathologist is routinely available in-house on Mondays and Thursdays (on-call, as needed for other days of the week).


The pathologist performs tissue frozen sections, needle-guided biopsies, and bone marrows on site. All cytology specimens are transported to Pathology and Cytology Labs, Lexington, KY.
 
Specified professional personnel perform testing on all types of specimens. Functions are delineated by individual abilities and credentials. All work is performed under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist, approved by the medical staff. All testing is done with the best turn-around-time for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. 
 
Department hours:
The hospital laboratory provides services seven (7) days a week, 24 hours a day. The hospital outpatient drawing area provides services Monday - Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

An off-site, outpatient drawing facility provides services Monday – Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
