Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center is a multi-disciplinary program which provides exercise conditioning, endurance training, education and emotional support for patients with chronic pulmonary disease. Through rehabilitation, we strive to stabilize or reverse both the physical and mental aspects of pulmonary disease.
Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program begins with initial evaluation utilized to create an individualized treatment plan. It is typically a 36 session program in which participants attend three days per week, but can be altered to suit patient needs. Our goal is to provide individualized instruction and training that will enable patients to control and reduce symptoms and complications of pulmonary disease in order to increase independence and maximize function.
Our program consists of two phases: Phase I - Outpatient Pulmonary Rehab, which consists of monitored exercise and education and Phase II Maintenance Program. Patients participating in a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation program repeatedly show a decrease in the number of emergency room visits and number of days spent in the hospital due to their disease. Rehabilitation also improves physical conditioning and self-esteem.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Patients who may benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation include those with:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Emphysema
- Chronic bronchitis
- Asthma
- Cystic fibrosis
- Bronchiectasis
- Pneumoconiosis (black lung)
