The Pattie A. Clay Foundation was created to help Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center meet the needs of patients, employees and members of the community. Established in 1999, The Foundation formalized more than 100 years of philanthropy. Through annual gifts, endowment assets and funding of major facilities, technologies and programs, The Pattie A. Clay Foundation and the community members who support it help ensure the Medical Center’s continued leadership in health care.
We have identified three specific areas where The Foundation can best help Pattie A. Clay RMC:
- Technology
- Community
- Programs
Mission: Pattie A. Clay Foundation initiates development opportunities and achieves fund raising goals to enhance, promote and financially support the mission of the not-for-profit Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.
Each year the Foundation works with donors to raise and invest funds that help PACRMC:
- Maintain health care excellence by bridging the financial gap between the increasing cost of providing services and the shrinking level of reimbursement from insurance;
- Purchase new equipment and make other non-reimbursable capital investments that allow PACRMC to provide patients with the latest and most technologically advanced care;
- Provide access to excellent health care to a culturally and economically diverse community;
- Form partnerships with other organizations to support communitywide health improvement efforts;
History - A tradition of excellence
It was in community philanthropy that Pattie A. Clay Hospital had its beginnings when in 1892 Brutus Clay donated a cottage to be used as a hospital in memory of his late wife, Pattie Amelia Field Clay. Not long after, donations consisted mainly of such practical items as food, clothing and furniture. Present-day donations to The Foundation come in the form of cash, checks, credit charges, stocks, endowments, named gifts and real estate.
The Pattie A. Clay Foundation was established in 1999 as a non-profit charitable organization to:
- Recognize development opportunities
- Achieve fundraising goals to enhance, promote and financially support the Hospital’s efforts to provide the highest quality medical care for the people of Madison County and the surrounding region.
- Be an advocate for the Medical Center and represent the community served by it.
The Pattie A. Clay Foundation honors the past, works to secure the present, and plans for the future. We want to make it possible for today’s leaders and philanthropists to leave their mark and help provide for the healthcare needs of future generations.
“Over the years, philanthropy has come in many forms. Along with Brutus Clay’s gift of a house, there came garden produce, soap and cured meat. The tradition of giving was established early.
Foundation Accomplishments The Foundation’s accomplishments to date include:
- 2001 - grassroots campaign generating community-wide support in the amount of $1 million for renovation of the ground floor of the Hospital
- 2003-2004 - raising $500,000 toward the renovation of the Women’s Center on the second floor of the Hospital
By meeting these initial challenges, the Pattie A. Clay Foundation did more than raise needed funds. It established a hallmark of solid fundraising tradition by creating a climate of participation and involvement within the community.
Over the past 115 years, our community has repeatedly demonstrated its appreciation and support for Brutus J. Clay’s gift of a hospital in 1892. Each time the community has responded positively, the Hospital has moved forward with improved care for its patients – for you – now and in the future.
By its very nature, the current campaign to renovate and expand the Hospital’s third and fourth floors is a community effort. The Pattie A. Clay Foundation will recruit and train volunteer leadership teams for the $2.7 million “Care, Compassion and Confidence” Capital Campaign, engaging people of all ages, interests, and backgrounds throughout Madison County and the surrounding communities. Not only will the “Care, Compassion and Confidence” Capital Campaign be another hallmark in the history of the Foundation, it will also be another concrete example of the Foundation, the Hospital and the community coming together to provide quality healthcare by a team of highly-skilled professionals through nurturing, personalized services in a modern facility.
