The law firm of Sword, Floyd and Moody, PLLC of Richmond was recognized by the Association of Fund Raising Professionals for its philanthropic contribution to the Richmond community.  Partner, Michael R. Eaves accepted the Outstanding Community Philanthropy award on behalf of his partners in the firm, Morris B. Floyd, David L. Bohannon, David M. Fernandez, Stuart K. Olds, and Melinda A. Murphy, at a Lexington luncheon honoring central Kentucky organizations who make a difference in their communities.  Sword, Floyd and Moody, PLLC was nominated for the award by the Pattie A. Clay Foundation.

In remarks during the luncheon, Master of Ceremonies Denny Trease of WKYT-TV, commented that Sword, Floyd & Moody is “One of the most respected law firms in Richmond, and has always been involved in making Richmond a better place.  The firm’s partners boast a long list of philanthropic interests, including the arts, health care, housing, ethics, education, social services and youth development.”  Sword, Floyd & Moody was among the first businesses in Richmond to renovate and restore one of the historic buildings on

Main Street, a task which earned them the Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation and a similar Richmond Chamber of Commerce award.

Trease continued, “The law firm of Sword, Floyd and Moody, PLLC shows what corporate responsibility is all about.”

Florence Tandy, Director of Pattie A. Clay Foundation explained the reason Sword, Floyd and Moody was nominated for the award.  “The firm is an abiding supporter of Pattie A. Clay Foundation (the fund raising organization for Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center).  Partner David Bohannon sits on the Foundation’s board of directors and partner Michael R. Eaves originated a pro-am golf tournament to raise funds for the Foundation, with Sword, Floyd & Moody as a major sponsor.  With Mike as chair of the event, the golf tournament has raised over $100,000 for hospital construction projects in just three years.”

In responding to the honor Eaves explained Sword, Floyd & Moody’s philosophy toward giving back to the community.  “We believe it is important to give back to a community that has been integral to our business success.  We also want our children to grow up understanding the importance of philanthropy to creating a strong community with a good quality of life.  I hope we are setting a good example.”

National Philanthropy Day celebrates those who have made a significant contribution of time and resources to non-profit organizations in order to enhance the quality of life in our communities.  National Philanthropy Day is celebrated annually, with local ceremonies organized each year by the Bluegrass Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
