Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center
 Launches Capital Campaign

Melany and Richard Thomas to chair campaign

The Pattie A. Clay Foundation recently hosted an event to officially launch its “Care, Compassion and Confidence” capital campaign to raise money for the renovation and upgrade of the third and fourth medical-surgical floors of the hospital.

Guests were invited to learn more about the needs of the hospital and the plans for the future as well as view the premier showing of a video about the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center and the new project.

During the event Richard and Melany Thomas were introduced as the campaign chairmen.

Originally from Glasgow, Kentucky, Thomas moved to Richmond to attend Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated with a degree in social studies.  He initially planned to teach, but when he was offered a chance to work in health care he

re-evaluated his options.  While working at the University of Kentucky Medical Center he also attended Xavier University where he obtained a master’s degree in hospital administration.

During the years that followed Thomas held several administrative positions in health care.  In 1979 he returned to Richmond, a place he had learned to call home.

Thomas served as chief executive officer and president of Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center from 1979 to 2001. While at PAC he saw the hospital experience many changes.

Co-chairing the project is his wife, Melany, who is the executive administrative assistant with Neurological Associates, a physician practice located in Lexington.  She is also the meeting coordinator for the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies.

“We very excited about the new expansion project and what it will mean to our hospital and community,” says Thomas.  “A step-down unit from the coronary- intensive care, has always been a dream of mine. In addition, every patient should have a private room to aid in the healing process.”
